Technical Publications

State of the Bay Report 2006, Celebrating Our Greatest Natural Asset  Published about every five years, this is the latest update to the status of the Bay.  This report includes information on water quality, water pollution sources, red tide and seagrasses.  We have also outlined current restoration projects for intertidal habitat, artifical reefs and oyster bed enhancements.  Education and outreach projects are also explained.  SBEP projects are showcased on a color fold out map in the back.  Dont' miss it!  Find out how you can get involved in restoring Sarasota Bay!

State of the Bay 2000, A Decade of Progress
This document presents a decade of progress as outlined by the Program’s efforts in partnership with citizen, technical and government partners. The publication discusses completed and future restoration projects, how the efforts have helped restore the Bay and what yet needs accomplished.

The Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan 1995, The Voyage to Paradise Reclaimed
This document presents a comprehensive conservation and management plan to restore Sarasota Bay and provides specific actions to be implemented by the community. Following an intensive technical analysis to determine the condition of Sarasota Bay and sources of pollution, recommendations for improved Bay management were developed, and approved by citizen and government groups. 

Framework for Action
Created in 1993, this publication discusses the state of the Bay and the possibilities it holds. Included in the document is a framework of action that the Program recommended as a means to restore and reclaim the Bay. The information contained in this document was reviewed and analyzed by the community, technical peers and government agencies on the local, state and federal level. Much of the information was part of the recommendations in the 1995 Comprehensive Management Plan.


State of the Bay 1990
 
This publication describes the extent of the Bay’s problems in 1992 and presents ideas for solutions. It includes a summary of findings, options for Bay improvement and an in-depth discussion of the Bay’s condition as investigated by the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program. A self-quiz on Sarasota Bay is also provided to enhance the reader’s understanding of major Bay issues.

The Gulf Coast Heritage Trail
On the Gulf Coast Heritage Trail, you are invited to tour and visit an array of environmental, cultural and historical gems found in beautiful Manatee and Sarasota counties. The Trail promotes a scenic auto tour route and includes bicycle staging area where visitors may park and pedal to nearby spectacular destinations, such as Manatee Village Historical Park, Siesta Beach, Heritage Park and Myakka River State Park.   

Working to Protect and Preserve Sarasota Bay  This coloful trifold brochure gives a general explanantion of SBEP's mission, program and priorities.

A Chronicle of Florida's Gulf Coast
Want to know where to go and what to do in Southwest Florida? The Chronicles is for you! Meshing topics such as places to see/things to do with wetlands, mangroves, birds and manatees, this publication is a comprehensive guide of activities in and around Sarasota Bay.  This is the second companion piece to the Gulf Coast Heritage Trail and Recreational Opportunities on the Bay. 

 
Sarasota Bay Children's Activity Book
The Sarasota Bay Children's Activity Book is a fun, education tool. The 24 page booklet is for children ages 6 - 12. It is filled with word searches, fill in the blanks, pictures to color, mazes and connect-the-dots. The booklet covers topics such as the water cycle, water conservation, marine life, coastal habitats and much more.
